From birth, we are programmed to take directions and listen to opinions of others before making our own minds up.

We go through life seeking for advice (or receiving it without even asking!) from our parents, family, teachers, friends, colleagues, coaches…Consumption of social medial, news, TV, only further conditions our minds with clutter and chaos.

The busy’ness, doing’ness and constant information consumption make us forget that we are human-beings and not human doings.

For some reason we tend to believe that the busier we are, the more value we add to our lives and to lives of others. We run on empty tank, trying to be everything to everyone and forget our own needs, believing that sacrificing our desires is somehow a selfless thing to do?!

How many times in your day do you stop and pause? How often do you switch off your laptop, put your phone away and go for a walk without listening to music or podcasts? Just you with your thoughts in the nature? How often do you sit on the couch with your eyes closed connecting to your day ahead, or to the task you want to accomplish or message you want to share?

Not so long ago the idea of taking a pause from my schedule would have terrified me. I had a long list of things I had to do before kids returned home from school. There was also washing, tidying up and other household chores to get through. I barely had enough time to breathe, let alone go for a walk or sit on the couch.

Although I started each day with a meditation practice, I often found that by mid morning the serenity and peace of my mind I experienced in the morning was long gone. I was plugged into the reality of life which was fast, uncompromising and overwhelming. Looking at my to-do list I struggled to decide what to focus on first and wondered how can I ever succeed as a business owner and as a Mom.

I have always been healthy, loved to exercise and even in the busiest of days found an hour to go to the gym or for a run. So when one day I found myself unable to open my laptop or send another email, I panicked. I had no energy to go to the gym, no energy to write a blog or get on a call with clients. It felt surreal and rather scary.

With nothing left to do, I sat on the couch trying to quieten the chatter in my busy mind. I now had more time to delve deeper into Human Design, a system which fascinated me for some time. I learned so much about myself during these quiet days on the couch. The way I used my energy, the way I made decisions and communicated and the way I showed up in life. I learned about my native strengths, my gifts and challenges. And the biggest lesson I learned that it was Ok to be me. That all the ‘weakness’, the quirkiness and weirdness were in fact my biggest assets.

When it comes to decision making, it is important to understand that we have all the answers within us and when we stop giving our power away to external authorities and instead, relax into ourselves and trust ourselves and our intuition to show us what is next, our lives will unfold with less struggle, turmoil, and confusion. And this is what Human Design system shows you. If you just take time to truly grasp it, you will be lead to deep sense of alignment and fulfilment.

Another important concept to understand when it comes to making decisions is that our logical minds are not the place where we find answers. Our minds are for creativity, ideas and inspiration. When we make decisions with our logical minds they are often based on previous memories, limiting beliefs and what we think is or isn’t possible for us. In other words, decisions made from our logic are predictable and limited.

So how do you make those life-changing decisions and find certainty in what is the most aligned action to take next? How do you make decisions which will enable you to get out of the doingness mode and free up time in your day to do whatever you love?

  1. Start each day with the intention to have more clarity, certainty, energy, decisiveness, etc. Whichever area of your life needs the most attention now, make it a priority.

  2. Create space in your day where you allow yourself to just be without any distraction. It can be a walk outside, a snooze on the couch or just sit in silence for few minutes. Ask a question to which you want to receive answers to and see what comes up. Stay open and listen. Don't give up, as training your intuition is just like training muscles in the gym. The more you practice the easier it becomes.
