One of the worst moments I have ever experienced in my life was because of a single meeting. A meeting with a doctor in a reputed hospital, to once again tell me that I had got cancer. I had managed to survive cancer 3 times before, but this time, my chances of survival were slim to none. But with the help of my amazing doctors, nurses, support staff, my kids, mother, father and husband, and friends, after 1 year of treatment, I again managed to survive.
However, looking back in retrospect, these scary, uncertain times turned out to be one of the best moments ever. This was the moment that allowed me to have that realization and drive to be part of something greater than myself.
Here are 4 lessons I learned through this journey that will enable you to develop a ‘champion mindset’ and overcome any challenges in life:
Lesson No.1 Give an Empowering Meaning to Challenges
In our personal and professional life, we are always presented with one challenge or the other. It is not what happens, but it is what meaning we associate with what happens that really matters. Two people could be given the exact same challenge where one complains, stresses out, and has no clue how to resolve the issue, whereas the other one has trained himself/herself to focus on finding a solution and come out on top.
Lesson No 2. Reflect on Your Personal Leadership
When you hear the term Leadership, most people think about leading or managing a group of people, but actually, Leadership starts with you. It begins with taking 100% responsibility for everything that happens in your life, and this mindset will enable you to filter out everything that is beyond your control and focus fully on what you can control. Great leadership is also about having the courage to make bold decisions and being certain of the outcome you want to achieve.
Lesson No 3. Be Wary About Other People Passing On Their Limiting Beliefs to You
This is such an important lesson that I wish I had learned early on in my life. Do you have any family member, friend, colleague, or someone else who tells you you cannot do something because of X, Y, or Z reasons? They are quite convinced that it is impossible because of their past failures and struggles, but that doesn’t mean you are not capable of overcoming those challenges. It is ok to listen to their advice. However, you need to be careful about believing someone blindly and taking on their limiting beliefs. Your life is 100% a mirror image of your strongest beliefs, so identify old beliefs that don’t serve you, break them and develop empowering beliefs that help you get what you want in life.
