Michelle Powell is a powerful intuitive psychic, spiritual mentor, and energy healer with over two decades of experience. As a second-generation healer, she specializes in deep energy work, helping others awaken their own innate gifts and navigate their spiritual journeys.

Everything is energy. It’s not just a spiritual concept; it’s physics, biology, emotion, and intention all rolled into one. From the warmth of the sun to the emotions that shift a room’s atmosphere, energy is the force that connects and influences everything around us. When you become aware of energy, your own, others’, and the forces moving through nature, you unlock an entirely new way of experiencing life.

This isn’t just about tuning into mystical vibrations (though, let’s be honest, that part is fun). It’s about being more present, balanced, and attuned to the subtle shifts in yourself and your surroundings. Whether you want to improve your intuition, deepen your meditation practice, or simply navigate life with more ease, cultivating energy awareness is key. So how do you do it?
10 ways to enhance your energy awareness in daily life and beyond
1. Grounding: Becoming one with the Earth
Think of grounding as plugging yourself into the Earth’s battery. When you’re ungrounded, you might feel spacey, drained, or overly reactive. When you’re grounded, you’re steady, focused, and energized.
Try this:
Barefoot walking: Take off your shoes and feel the Earth beneath your feet. Grass, sand, and dirt, each surface carries a unique frequency that connects you to nature’s rhythms.
Root visualization: Imagine roots extending from your feet deep into the Earth, anchoring you and drawing up energy. This is a favorite and highly effective meditative practice for many! I have personally witnessed miracles in myself and others from this visualization practice alone.
Elemental focus: Work with stones, plants, or even saltwater baths to reinforce your connection to the Earth element. You can also sit quietly, calming your body and mind to start from a relaxed state. Then, call to mind the energy of the Earth. With your eyes closed and your body at ease, visualize how the Earth feels through all your senses. Allow its positive benefits to filter through your energetic body, your thinking mind, feeling heart, soul, spirit, and nervous system.
I love leading meditation and incorporate healing into all my meditation practices. If you’ve got 13 minutes to spare, I invite you to join me for a grounding and energy alignment meditation; I have no doubt it will help you feel lighter, calmer, and more peaceful. Or you can bookmark my meditation video to watch later.
2. Breathwork: Harnessing life force energy
Your breath is the simplest yet most powerful tool for energy awareness. Conscious breathing connects you to your life force (or Qi, Prana, etc.), clearing stagnant energy and amplifying vitality. These practices improve psychic senses and connect you to realms of awareness you may not otherwise have access to.
Try this:
Box breathing (4-4-4-4): Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again. This centers your mind and nervous system.
Breath of fire: A rapid, rhythmic breathwork technique that increases energy flow and clears emotional blockages.
Sighing meditation: Take a deep breath in and sigh it out audibly; this instantly releases tension and resets your energy.
Channel air: Just as you can call on Earth energy, you can also channel any of the elements for healing and wellness. Practice sitting quietly, calming your body and mind, and allowing yourself to visualize all the sensations associated with air.
Compare air and life force energy signatures: If you want to take this a step further, channel Earth, air, and then life force energy separately, and observe how they present both similarly and differently. Pay attention to the sensations each one brings and immerse yourself as you refine your connection and understanding of each unique energetic signature.

If you know anything about Dr. Wayne Dyer or Taoism, you know that it’s all about letting go, surrendering, and allowing the natural flow of your life to find you and carry you through. For those looking for more advanced meditation practices, I recommend his “I Am” meditation. Bear in mind, this is a spiritual meditation; it is long, and it is powerful.
3. Sensing the energy field
Your aura extends beyond your physical body, and learning to feel it is a serious game-changer. The aura itself is divided into different planes, levels, or dimensions, each connected to various aspects of our 3D life experience. Practicing how to sense the aura or energetic field enhances intuition, emotional intelligence, and energetic protection. I could write a whole article just on the aura, but for now, we’ll keep it simple.
Try this:
Rub your hands together vigorously, then slowly pull them apart. Can you feel the tingling, the resistance, the heat? That’s energy!
Close your eyes and sense the space around your body. Can you feel warmth, coolness, or subtle pressure?
Stand in a room and notice where the energy shifts. Doorways, objects, and even thoughts leave imprints!

Here’s a fun practice with practical applications, especially for empaths:
Close your eyes and bring your awareness to yourself and the space that comes to mind when you hear “my center.” Now, bring your awareness to your complete energetic being and notice where your energy ends. How far out from you does it extend? Do you hold your energy close, or are you widespread and open?
Next, bring your awareness to another person nearby and see if you can sense where their energy ends. Now, and this is the good part, find the space between where your energy ends and where theirs begins. Focus on the space in between.
Cultivating awareness in this specific way, where you focus on the space between where another person’s energy ends and your energy begins, helps people separate emotions and energies that do not belong to them. If you’re someone who feels everything from everyone, try practicing this to help teach your mind and body how to recognize and filter out what doesn’t belong to you.
4. Working with the elements
Each of the elements, Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and even Spirit, carries unique energetic properties. Aligning with them strengthens your ability to sense and direct energy.
Try this:
Earth: Hold a stone or press your hands against a tree trunk to feel stability.
Air: Sit in the wind and focus on its touch against your skin. How does it shift your mood?
Fire: Light a candle and meditate on its warmth and movement.
Water: Submerge your hands in water and imagine it cleansing your energy field.
Meditation & channeling: You can build upon some of the previous exercises to cultivate a deeper awareness of each individual energetic signature. Start from a calm, meditative state and call forth each elemental energy one by one.
It is important to note that this practice can become physically overwhelming or even trigger dizziness or headaches. Be sure to release any energies you call forth when channeling in this way.
5. Light language and sound vibration
Sound carries energy that can shift frequencies within and around you. Light Language, mantras, singing bowls, or even your favorite music can raise your awareness and harmonize your field.
Try this:
Chant a word or phrase and feel how its vibration moves through you.
Listen to different frequencies (such as 432 Hz or 528 Hz) and observe how they affect your body.
Attend sound baths or try using tuning forks, taking notice of any effects or sensations.
Going deeper: More about Light Language
If you have this gift, then practice it. Speak or write in Light Language and allow the sounds to flow intuitively. If you do not know or quite understand what Light Language is, that’s okay! It’s not for everyone.
As a baby step, bring yourself to a calm, relaxed state and simply give yourself permission to be expressive in new or different ways. Understand that you are sovereign; you are in control. While it may seem bizarre to some, nothing bad or harmful is happening. Relax your inhibitions and fears. Let go of thoughts like “How will I look?” or concerns about whether this is silly or weird. Give yourself permission to be silly or even weird.
Relax and allow your body to move intuitively or differently. Yawn. Stretch. Some people love to scream in these practices. If you sense vibration or sound within your body, don’t hold back. Allow yourself the space and freedom to do whatever comes naturally. Shake. Laugh. Howl! Make weird sounds or vocalizations. There is no right or wrong answer; simply allow your energy to be expressed as it naturally desires. Trust that your true nature is good, and allow that innate goodness to move through you in amazing new ways.
6. Tuning into plants and nature’s consciousness
Plants, trees, and even fungi have energetic fields. They communicate, exchange energy, and respond to human interaction. In fact, as you study this deeper, you will find correlations between plants, planets, and other elemental energy signatures.
Try this:
Place your hands near a plant and see if you can sense its energy.
Meditate in a garden and notice any subtle, energetic impressions. Compare and contrast the ways in which the natural world is diverse yet interconnected within its own structures and systems.
Speak to plants and see how they respond over time. Science backs up that plants recognize voices and care!
Going deeper
Do you believe that nature speaks? It does. The key is opening yourself up to listen. As you cultivate an understanding of the natural world, you may find that things take on new or deeper meaning than before.
7. Energy cleansing & alignment rituals
Just like you shower to remove physical dirt, cleansing your energy is essential for clarity and balance. (Again, try my meditation if you’d like guidance on clearing and aligning your own energetic field.)
Try this:
Smudging: Use sage, palo santo, or herbs to clear stagnant energy. Palo santo is my personal favorite, along with cinnamon.
Salt baths: Soak in sea salt and imagine it pulling away negativity. This works great for pain and inflammation!
Visualization: Picture a waterfall of golden light washing over you, refreshing your entire being.
8. Dreamwork and astral exploration
As you deepen your energetic awareness, you begin to realize that energy isn’t just physical. It extends into dreams, visions, and astral experiences, psychic realms that are natural and inherent to all of us.
Try this:
Keep a dream journal to track symbols and patterns. Practice five minutes of mindful meditation before bed, giving your subconscious mind permission to communicate with your conscious mind through dreams. When you wake, write down anything that comes to mind or any details you remember. The more you practice, the clearer the messages will become.
Practice conscious dream entry by setting an intention before sleep.
Explore deeper meditative practices like remote viewing or astral travel. Meditate on astral travel techniques to experience energy in other dimensions or celestial planes. We are not alone!

9. Mindfulness and emotional energy awareness
Your emotions shape your energetic field, and becoming aware of them helps you navigate interactions with greater clarity. This is another one of those topics I could write a book on.
Your emotions absolutely affect your entire physical body, your health, and your wellness. They influence your job, your bank account, your family, your lifespan, your past, and your future. If you want to be healthy and whole, pay attention to your emotions and do not neglect your own healing journey. This is paramount.
Try this:
Scan your body for tension and ask yourself, “What emotion is stored here?”
Observe how different people affect your energy and adjust accordingly.
Use affirmations to shift stuck emotional energy into a higher frequency.
10. Connecting with planetary energies
Another fun way to cultivate energy awareness and intelligence is by working with the planets. This may not be for everyone, and that’s okay! Whether you believe it or not, our solar system and its planets exert subtle energetic influences on us, yes, on all of us. Tuning into these rhythms can enhance awareness.
Try this:
Track lunar cycles and notice how they affect your emotions and energy levels.
Work with planetary days (e.g., Thursday for expansion and prosperity, ruled by Jupiter).
Meditate on cosmic energies and see what insights come through.
Conclusion: Energy awareness as a way of life
Energy awareness isn’t just about esoteric experiences. It’s about living more intentionally, feeling more connected, and accessing deeper layers of wisdom. The more you practice, the more you’ll notice energy in everything, the way a room feels when you walk in, the subtle shifts in your own emotions, and even the guidance life offers when you’re paying attention.
Start small, explore what resonates with you, and watch how your world transforms.
