Yumna Zubi

Clinical Psychologist and CEO of The Couch

Yumna Zubi is a registered Clinical Psychologist and CEO of The Couch. What began as a solo psychology practice has grown into a multidisciplinary team of eleven health care practitioners consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, and occupational therapists, supported by four administrative staff members and eleven volunteers. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2012. Her research on first hospitalization experiences for acute psychosis was published in the South African Journal of Psychiatry and presented at the International Conference on Psychiatry and Mental Health, contributing to advancing mental health care.
 
In 2013, Yumna founded The Couch, taking on the role of an entrepreneur. The slogan, "Heal. Learn. Grow.," reflects her personal and professional philosophy. She collaborates with a team of practitioners who share her vision, and uniquely ensure high-quality, innovative, and evidence-based care for clients. She values the role of mentorship and outreach efforts to empower and support communities.
 
Yumna was among the first South African healthcare providers to complete the Healthcare Accelerator programme by GE and Standard Bank in 2017, gaining technical, clinical, and business tools to enhance patient care. She furthered her business acumen by completing the Harvard ManageMentor programme in 2018. The insights gained in these courses sparked her passion for not just working in the business, but working on the business.
 
With over a decade of experience, Yumna embraces challenges with a proactive mindset. She embodies the belief in trying rather than fearing failure, continually responding to evolving client needs and professional developments. Her career is dedicated to pioneering innovative, ethical healthcare treatments and leadership strategies, transforming challenges into opportunities for lasting systemic healing, learning and growth.
