Mental Health Somatic Therapist

Theresa Rybchinski is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and Mental Health Somatic Therapist. A lifelong learner driven by curiosity, Theresa began her academic journey studying Kinesiology and Health Promotion, where she cultivated her fascination with movement and the human body.

Having danced since the age of four and practiced yoga since she was 17, Theresa has long understood the healing power of movement. Her dedication to studying Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a clinical somatic therapy modality, has reinforced her belief in a holistic approach to bridging the mind and body. Over the years, she has further expanded her expertise through extensive training in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Meditation, and Mindfulness, all of which inform her body-oriented approach to therapy.

Theresa’s professional journey is deeply informed by her lived experience of trauma and mental health challenges, including supporting a loved one through addiction. These experiences have shaped her professional path and gifted her with profound empathy and understanding, which she brings to her work with clients.

Her career began at Wilderness Addiction Treatment Centers, where she supported individuals overcoming substance use disorders which led her to work in various harm reduction and Indigenous mental health programs. This work solidified her passion for mental health and addiction recovery, inspiring her to pursue a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work. In her private practice, Wild Journey Recovery, Theresa integrates somatic therapy, and trauma-focused care to help clients navigate their healing journeys.

With over a decade of studying the impact of trauma and various trauma-focused modalities, Theresa is dedicated to addressing various types of trauma, including ongoing systemic racism. She specializes in trauma and addiction recovery, as well as supporting clients navigating chronic stress, burnout, chronic pain, and chronic illness. Her work often focuses on nervous system regulation and neural reprogramming, emphasizing the importance of addressing the root causes of pain to restore empowerment and vitality.

Theresa’s mission is to de-stigmatize mental health and addiction while advocating for collective care and social justice. She strives to create spaces where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported.

She believes that healing is transformed through connection—connection to self, others, and the natural world. A passionate rock climber and hiker, Theresa finds refuge in the wild and envisions creating greater access to nature as a space for healing. She hopes to one day incorporate outdoor activities into mental health support.
