Sharon Belshaw

CEO of Break the Silence

Sharon's background experience includes working in Mental Health outreach and as a Special Constable, this has given me a deeper insight to other's distress and dealing with crisis situations.

Sharon is a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and BPS (British Psychological Society) , she works with adults and adolescents for both short -term and long-term therapy. she trained in EMDR and maintain a membership with the EMDR Association.

As well as my private work, I also have experience working in GP practice and has previously worked in secondary schools providing counselling for adolescents. also having worked in a managerial capacity for a large corporate Employee Assistance Programme providing short term counselling and brief psychological interventions.

For over a year, I also provided therapy within a Brain Injury rehabilitation centre to those who have experienced brain injury and their families.
In addition to private counselling, she is a CEO Clinical for a specialist Complex Trauma organisation, Break the Silence, having previously been a Clinical Lead in the same organisation.
She has spoken at conferences and delivered workshops to other organisations to raise awareness of the impact of psychological distress.
Due to her interest in trauma, she wrote an article on the impact of Childhood Sexual Abuse and birth that was published in the British Journal of Midwifery in 2018 and in March 2024 and an article on Autism and Sexual abuse awareness for paremts for Autism Parenting Magazine.
 
In 2018 she won a North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership award.

In addition to my BACP membership  she is also a member of the British Psychological Society.
Sharon is currently studying for my Doctorate in Psychological Trauma at the University of Chester with research interests in autism and sexual abuse.
She is a Qualified Ericksonian Hypnotherapist which she does on a private basis, this also helps with anxiety and stress.
