Psychotherapist

Lisa Skeffington, MNCP, SQHP, Founder of Empowered Momentum Ltd and a “Self-Esteem Expert and Inner Child Whisperer,” has transformed her personal experiences of trauma and abuse into a positive mission to provide in-demand support for high-achieving, industry-leading women.

Lisa mentors high functioning mid-life women to thrive courageously and confidently in their life and career so that they feel good about themselves, free from anxiety, overwhelm and self-doubt, and confident to communicate effectively in all their relationships.  She supports these women to break through the glass ceiling at work, and own their worth both professionally and personally.

Lisa’s vision is to empower all women worldwide to thrive from the heart in a resilient way; to become the women they were always meant to be with safety to feel fully heard and respected.

Lisa is hailed Women’s Psychotherapist of the Year 2024/25, recognised in Woman & Home’s ‘50 Amazing Women over 50’Awards, and featured in Forbes and Psychologies magazines. She is considered a thought-leader in the field of mental health for her innovative approach to therapy.

Growing up in a home marked by domestic violence, she endured years of her father’s abusive attempts to break her spirit; to convince her that she was worthless and unlovable. Escaping with support at 18, she externally rebuilt and portrayed a seemingly confident life but behind her own mask carried the scars of her upbringing, feeling like a fraud and fearful of being exposed. For years, Lisa pushed through, ignoring her pain until she reached a breaking point.

Her recovery taught her the transformative power of self-belief and self-compassion.

This deeply personal journey of overcoming trauma has fuelled Lisa’s mission over her 25+ year career to support thousands of wounded women under her wing, with ‘Actual Proper Help’ for women battling Imposter Syndrome and Burnout caused by emotional wounds, layers of abuse and the heavy toll of living behind a mask of success.

Lisa uses her own unique blend of psychodynamic psychotherapy and advanced hypnotherapy alongside bespoke mentoring for life-skills and communication mastery – an approach which Lisa describes as psychodynamic mentoring.

Lisa is a fully accredited member of the National Council of Psychotherapists, qualified in integrative counselling and psycho-dynamic psychotherapy. She holds a senior qualification in advanced hypnotherapy and hypno-healing, including neuro-linguistic programming and cognitive behavioural therapy. With further qualifications in nutrition and physical wellbeing, she is a member of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, endorsed by the General Medical Council.

She is founder of Empowered Momentum and the Empowered Momentum Community, has authored three books, her latest From Anxious to Empowered published in 2024. She runs exclusive ‘Remove the Mask’ coastal escapes and in-person day retreats ‘Bloom Beyond the Mask’ on the UK Dorset coast.
