Lisa Brett
Career Writer
Lisa began her writing career as a reporter and newsreader at a regional television station in New South Wales, Australia, where she also presented her own lifestyle show. She was quickly head hunted by one of the major national networks and moved to Adelaide where her career flourished. On her days off she also wrote for a couple of popular national magazines.
Lisa went to 'the other side' when the Attorney General of South Australia asked her to work for him as his Media Advisor and speech writer. So began a long and successful career in politics working with cabinet ministers in both Australia and the UK.
In 2001 she moved to London to be near her family following an upheaval in her personal life. Here she was snapped up by the Cabinet Office and worked in communications until she was transferred to a special unit, the Coalition Information Centre, that was created by the then Prime Minister, Tony Blair, following the 9/11 terrorism attacks. Lisa's role involved liaising with the White House daily and looking after the embassy staff who joined the unit.
Following a three month expedition in Ghana, west Africa, where Lisa was the PR Officer, she returned to London where she worked in criminal justice for the department that became the Ministry for Justice. She helped media manage several high profile trials before deciding she wanted to work closer to her home in Kent.
Her expertise as a communications specialist within the criminal justice system secured her a high profile job within Kent Police, where she remained for several years. However, a desire to work from home, so that she could spend more time with her beloved dog, saw her ultimately establish a successful business as a family celebrant.
Lisa loves writing, it's in her DNA, and her book, Finding Happiness When It Hurts, is one of her greatest achievements. Away from writing she loves overseas adventures such as climbing volcanoes and swimming with sealions and sharks which she did in the Galapagos, the same year that her book was published. She's also obsessed with surrealist artist, Salvador Dali, and has visited most of the iconic locations around the world associated with him.
