Kary Youman's story is a testament to resilience. At age 12, he discovered the man he had always believed to be his father was not his biological parent, a revelation that sent him into a deep depression and years of substance abuse. It wasn't until he turned 29 that Kary embraced sobriety, grounded in meditation, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy, and began the hard work of rebuilding his life.
 
In 2018, a DNA test unexpectedly connected him with his biological father. Their brief reunion was transformative, forging new family ties and shared moments. However, this connection was tragically cut short when his father died by suicide in 2020. In the wake of this loss, Kary channeled his grief into completing and publishing his father’s memoir, "From Misery to Hope."
 
Formerly a Learning and Development Director in corporate America, Kary left to pursue a more fulfilling path that aligned with his life's purpose. Inspired by the simple joy a monthly t-shirt subscription once brought him, he founded The Sobriety Box. This subscription service is designed to make recovery engaging and enjoyable, filled with tools to support mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It welcomes a secular community where everyone is welcome.
 
As CEO, Kary's mission is to support 1,000 men on their recovery journeys, offering a new outlook on life. His motto, "Sobriety can be fun," embodies his belief that recovery should be joyful and rewarding. The Sobriety Box has become a source of support for many, providing tools and a community for a fulfilling sober life.
 
Now living between Norway and the US, Kary cherishes his time with his wife and two energetic boys, constantly reminded of the personal stakes and joys in his work.
