Dr Janet Wiliams trained in Psychotherapy 25 years ago and has continuously expanded her knowledge and experience with various trainings in psychology and bodywork. Her main ongoing professional enquiry has been on how the body holds onto emotional and psychological wounds and what can be done to assist the body in releasing them. Her interest in trauma stems from countless observations over the years, that clients can truly heal when their traumatic injuries are acknowledged and located in the body, but most importantly, when they feel safe enough to let them go. Dr Williams has run a Trauma Counselling Programme in Bath, UK, for the past three years as part of the local authority services, working with perinatal women who have experienced chldhood trauma. Her doctoral research was titled: "What Happens When the Abused Child Becomes a Mother? A Qualitative Study of Intergenerational Trauma", exploring the biopsychosocial impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) within the systemic lens examining how society deals with childhood trauma. Aside from her perinatal work, Dr Williams has worked with clients suffering from all manner of traumatic symptoms e.g., complex PTSD from war trauma, birth trauma, relational trauma within marriages and domestic violence. Due to its success, her Trauma Counselling Programme is now being offered online to increase accessibility, as so many people around the world suffer from some form of trauma, with a Big T or a little t.
