Jamille Edwards

Counselor, Educator, Consultant, Author, and Public Speaker

Jamille Edwards possesses a rich and multifaceted career spanning over 15 years in the mental health field. With licenses to provide counseling and clinical supervision in both Illinois and Texas, she has honed her expertise across various settings, including private practice, non-profit organizations, inpatient mental health facilities, and university centers. Versatile in her approach, Jamille has seamlessly transitioned between face-to-face and virtual counseling modalities, ensuring accessibility for her diverse clientele.

Throughout her career, Jamille has delved into an array of critical topics, including substance abuse, intellectual disabilities, sexual trauma, domestic violence, grief and loss, and dual diagnosis disorders. Her dedication to advancing the field is evident in her extensive research contributions, which span substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma, human sexuality, and multiculturalism.

As an educator, Jamille has imparted her wisdom through teaching courses on substance abuse, career development, multiculturalism, and children/adolescent psychology. Her commitment to lifelong learning and growth led her to expand her services into wellness coaching for individuals and couples, recognizing the holistic nature of mental health.

Jamille's journey into the mental health field is deeply personal, shaped by her own experiences of generational trauma and emotional distress as a woman of color. Utilizing writing as a coping mechanism, she embarked on a path of education initially intending to complete a master's degree while raising her child as a single mother. However, her natural aptitude for teaching became apparent as mentors recognized the impact of her insights on fellow students.

Her professional evolution has been marked by a dedication to gaining diverse experiences, including intentional work in mental health hospitals to gain acute experience and a commitment to mastering theoretical approaches and interventions. Jamille's integrative approach to counseling, blending existentialism, cognitive behavioral theory, and contemplative practices, reflects her belief in the importance of considering the mind, body, and soul coherence in the therapeutic process.

As a clinical supervisor and adjunct professor, Jamille sees an opportunity not only to educate mental health professionals but also to contribute to the broader understanding of mental health. Her decision to offer coaching services stems from a desire to reach individuals in an educational capacity while complementing their counseling experiences. For Jamille, counseling, supervision, teaching, and coaching are not just professional roles but avenues through which she can empower others to embark on their journeys toward holistic well-being.
