Donna Davies

Speech Language Pathologist

Donna is a private practicing pediatric Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in the beautiful province of Alberta, Canada. Donna moved to Alberta after earning her Master’s Degree in Communication from Minot State University, North Dakota USA; settling into a picturesque little community nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Being the sole SLP in a rural community meant there were no colleagues close by to seek guidance from, which fostered Donna’s tenacious attitude of being a self-starter, a self thinker and a problem solver. Donna stayed in that picturesque community for 27 years honing and developing her skills for early language, speech sound disorders and persistent sound errors.

Donna's expertise in speech sound disorders stems from her absolute love for this disorder group and her deep and thorough understanding of the mechanisms of speech and the physiology of how sounds are made. Donna routinely enhances her knowledge and skills by taking courses from some of the best researchers and international authorities in the remediation of children with highly unintelligible speech. Some of these authorities include Nancy Kaufman, Dr. Barbara Williams Hodson and presenters with Apraxia Kids. Most recently, she has been studying orofacial myology and its connection to speech intelligibility and is pursuing certification to become a Qualified Orofacial Myologist.

Through her unique therapy style, Donna empowers families with the knowledge needed to support their child at home, extending her efforts to community partners as well. Donna has been invited to share her expertise in pediatric speech and language development with daycare facilities, preschools, parenting groups and large parenting conferences. Donna’s presentations titled “Push Button Play – Why Battery Powered Play Shouldn’t Be the Only Play”, “The Power of Words – Making a Difference” and her keynote address “Plugged in, Tuned Out – Why our Kids Need us Talking Not Texting” tackle the difficult topics of poor play opportunities and the invasive use of screens by parents and children and the link to speech and language delays.

With Donna's expertise and unwavering dedication to families whose children struggle with early language delays, speech sound disorders and persistent sound errors, she is steadfast in her commitment to transforming young lives by ensuring every child has a voice that can be understood.
