David "Messiah" Stamps
Spiritual Master, Master Storyteller and Producer
David “Messiah” Stamps is a 56-year-old, LGBTQ+ icon, Black, Different-abled Veteran Artist w/ PTSD.
David’s a 2024 Office Hours Resident for Social and Cultural Impact at The Kennedy Center, due to the social impact of his award-winning (chosen as a finalist for AITAF Bridge Award by Pulitzer Prize winner, Paula Vogel) entitled,” The Black Bullet Dichotomy Aka The BBD.” It dramatically decreases the number of unarmed Black men shot and killed in America.
In the 80s, at the Golden Age of Hip Hop, at 13 years of age, David taught billions of people about Unconditional love on a radio segment on the Frankie Crocker show on WBLS called,” On the phone.”
Mr. Crouch, a dominant-culture teacher at David’s high school, was taking advantage of his classmates, a vulnerable minority population. Stamps used his global platform to have him removed. Two students, no longer being touched inappropriately, led his high school, Flint Northwestern, to back-to-back Boys State Basketball championships from 1983-85.
Hence, the title, Messiah.
As an award-winning Writer/Producer of the BBD, a choreopoem, (Think “For Colored Girls by Ntozake Shange”, is the pilot project from his Anthology Series – THE OTHER SIDE – where Conscious Hip Hop meets The Twilight Zone.
In association with his nonprofit, THE VETERAN ARTIST ADVOCACY PROJECT, he’s producing a STAGED READING of the screenplay version of the BBD, as a SECTION 8 CREATIVE RESIDENCY the first week of BLACK HISTORY MONTH, 2025. Exact date TBA.
Why?
In 2022, Paula Vogel chose the BBD as The Winner of the AITAF Bridge Award Competition but Adam Driver, Co-founder of AITAF, forced her to choose another play. This unfair decision cost David $10,000, a staged reading at The Public Theatre, and direction under Patricia McGregor, the Artistic Director of TNYTW.
David has created, from inception to completion, multiple high concept screenplays, plays, and TV episodes, and webisodes based on this Intellectual Property. Well-crafted and deeply ironic morality plays infused with his award-winning original poetry and song.
A new sub-genre he created, HIP HOP HORROR.
I’m the Artist-In-Residence, for Senator Leroy Comrie’s Veteran’s Advisory Board, in St. Albans, Queens.
