Anne M. Hirsch, M.D. is an internal medicine specialist who has been in private practice in Portland, OR since 1992. She graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1989 and completed her Internal Medicine internship and residency at the Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR in 1992. Her goal is to help to educate her patients to allow them to feel empowered to jointly make medical decisions regarding their healthcare.

She serves on many committees and boards, and is involved in the American College of Physicians Oregon Chapter as their Awards Committee chair. She also serves as a judge for poster and oral presentations at their annual chapter meeting. She fulfilled the role of medicine department chair at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, after which she became medical staff president, and she has since served as the chair of their peer review committee and co-chair of the Oregon region peer review committee.

In addition, she is involved in her hospital’s Wellness Committee, which is where she was introduced to the world of physician coaching, and she became a certified Physician Coach in 2022. Although she coaches physicians on many diverse topics, her area of expertise is in medical communication. Her insights from her years of peer review has provided her with the unique opportunity to meet physicians where they are and help them to expand their ability to communicate effectively in the workplace, thereby improving patient outcomes and decreasing physician burnout and moral injury.

She is also a coding expert who educates physicians regarding appropriate coding to allow them to be reimbursed for the work that they do. She finds this work to be thoroughly fulfilling, as she sees improved confidence in physician coding, as well as improving the bottom line. These results help to improve the physician experience and decrease burnout and the likelihood of physicians leaving their medical careers prematurely.
