Dr. Adam Mark Harrison

Leadership and Wellbeing Coach and Trainer

Dr. Adam Harrison is a former physician who graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in the History of Medicine from The Wellcome Institute at University College London. He earned his medical degree from Imperial College London and practised clinically from 2000 to 2019, initially as a surgeon and later as a Family Physician, taking on his first medical leadership role in 2016. Additionally, he is a qualified Attorney-at-Law, having been called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2014, following the successful completion of his law degree and barrister training course, both undertaken at Nottingham Law School.

In 2020, Adam obtained Diplomas in Life, Leadership, and Executive Coaching, becoming a certified coach. Having experienced burnout twice and having faced workplace bullying several times as a junior doctor, he developed a keen interest in burnout prevention, and confidence and mindset coaching for professionals who have been targets of workplace bullying. More recently, he has also been involved in supporting the perpetrators of workplace bullying through reflection and rehabilitation.

As a former medical director and, drawing from his own experiences in organisations with toxic cultures, Adam assists leaders in cultivating kind workplace environments based on compassionate, servant, inclusive, and relational leadership models.

The foundational philosophy behind his work on workplace bullying and detoxifying leadership cultures, is focused on mental and physical well-being, which aligns seamlessly with his efforts to support burned-out professionals. As a result, he works extensively in this area, designing and leading well-being workshops for organisations to promote and embed well-being cultures within their workplaces.

He firmly believes in pursuing work that aligns with his core values - honesty, justice, gratitude, love, and humour - and feels this passion shines through in his work.

Adam is a strong ally for women and has been a podcaster since May 2022, when he created and launched the show Inspiring Women Leaders (available at https://healthpodcastnetwork.com/show/inspiring-women-leaders or on your favourite podcast platform).

Most recently Adam has enjoyed being engaged by multiple organisations from different countries in a variety of new roles, including medical advisor to two healthcare start-ups, and member of the Boards of Trustees of two New Zealand-based charities, with several other roles currently in consideration.

He is married to an Attending Maxillofacial Surgeon, and they have two remarkable young daughters. Originally from the UK, they relocated to New Zealand in January 2024.
